I am always inspired by literature, and as my yarns are named after my favourite creations, I thought I would share some of them. First up is The Lady of Shallot.
The above painting is based on Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem. The Pre-Raphaelites often painted the Arthurian legends. I think the whole idealism of Arthuriana leant itself the pre-raphaelite ideals.
In the poem, the Lady of Shalott is a magical being who lived in a castle situated on an island in the middle of a river that flowed to Camelot. She is only allowed to look at the world through her mirror's reflection, weaving what she sees in a tapestry. As Lancelot passes by, the Lady knows she is forbiddeen but cannot help but to look directly at him. Her mirror cracks, foretelling she has cursed herself.
